Growth substances (cytokines and growth factors) are soluble signaling proteins affecting the process of normal wound healing. Cytokines govern the inflammatory phase that clears cellular and extracellular matrix debris. Wound repair is controlled by growth factors (platelet-derived growth factor [PDGF], keratinocyte growth factor, and transforming growth factor beta). Endogenous growth factors communicate across the dermal-epidermal interface. PDGF is important for most phases of wound healing. (Goldman R. Adv Skin Wound Care 2004;17:24-35.) Wound Care Update

The Effect of Dietary Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid on Skin Wound Healing in Chronic Diabetic Rat
The potential role of omega – 3 (ω-3) and omega - 6(ω-6) fatty acids on wound healing is of interest and controversial. In the present study, the effect of dietary intake of fish oil (ω-3 diet ) and corn oil (ω-6 diet) on skin wound healing has been investigated in rat. This experimental study was performed on four groups of male rats (one normal group and three diabetic groups). Diabetes was i...
متن کاملEvaluation of the relationship between serum levels of insulin, cortisol and growth hormones and wound healing in normal and diabetic rats
Introduction: Several factors such as diseases, medications and humoral agents can delay or speed up wound healing process. Because of the limited information about the hormonal changes during wound healing, in this study the relationship between serum levels of growth hormone, insulin and cortisol and wound healing in normal and diabetic rats was evaluated. Methods: Male Wistar rats )weigh...

Wound healing and reduction of its recovery time is one of the most important issues in medicine. Wound is defined as disruption of anatomy and function of normal skin. This injury could be the result of physical elements such as surgical incision, hit or pressure cut of the skin and gunshot wound. Chemical or caustic burn is another category of wound causes that can be induced by acid or base...

Colostrum is the only natural source of transforming growth factors (TGF-α and β) and insulin-like growth factors (IGF-1 and 2) which play a role in wound healing. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of bovine colostrum on secondary wound healing in a guinea pig model. Methods Lyophilized bovine colostrum powder, in the form of an ointment (10 % w/w dried powde...
متن کاملApplication of autologous derived-platelet rich plasma gel in the treatment of chronic wound ulcer: diabetic foot ulcer.
The treatment of chronic wounds remains problematic, despite new insight into the cellular and molecular basis of wound healing. Although the aetio-pathogenesis of chronic wounds is said to be multi-factorial, it is evident from literature that effective and adequate wound debridement has produced the most consistent effect in chronic wound treatment. There is a growing body of evidence that su...
متن کاملAcute and impaired wound healing: pathophysiology and current methods for drug delivery, part 1: normal and chronic wounds: biology, causes, and approaches to care.
This is the first installment of 2 articles that discuss the biology and pathophysiology of wound healing, review the role that growth factors play in this process, and describe current ways of growth factor delivery into the wound bed. Part 1 discusses the latest advances in clinicians' understanding of the control points that regulate wound healing. Importantly, biological similarities and di...
